Paragon Technical Services, Inc (PTSi) is an internationally-recognized asphalt laboratory offering services in design and evaluation of Asphalt Mixture Designs (Hot-Mix, Cold-Mix, Warm-Mix, Full-Depth Reclamation, Micro Surfacing, Chip Seals, Scrub Seals, Cold-in-place-Recycling ), Asphalt Emulsions, and Asphalt Binders. PTSi certifications include AASHTO R-18 for Asphalt Cement, Cutback Asphalt, Emulsified Asphalt, Hot Mix Asphalt, and Aggregate. PTSi also has an accompanying ISO 17025 certification, as well as individual certification in multiple states.

PTSi’s AASHTO accredited asphalt binder laboratory has extensive capabilities to include SUPERPAVE binder certification, as well as rheological capabilities such as solids-torsion testing and repetitive creep testing. The asphalt binder groups exceptional knowledge of asphalt chemistry and instrumental methods aides in determining usability of binders for end uses such as asphalt emulsions or polymer modification. PTSi has experience with hundreds of asphalt sources around the world. Perhaps the asphalt binder group’s strength is in polymer modification with years of experience blending polymers and asphalt for applications in roofing, waterproofing, protective coatings, and paving.

PTSi pavements design laboratory offers various methods of design for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures. HMA design capabilities include but are not limited to: Marshall, SUPERPAVE, Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA), Open-Graded Friction Course (OGFC) and Dense Graded Hot Mix Asphalt. PTSi’s pavements design group has a diverse range of experience in testing HMA mixtures, from asphalt extractions to rut depth analysis of roadway cores. PTSi also offers HMA “performance” testing by means of the Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT), Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device, (AST), Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and other equipment. PTSi is an industry leader in the areas of Micro-Surfacing and Slurry Seal Design, Cold Mix Design, Full-Depth Recycling, Cold-in-place-Recycling, Hot-in-place-Recycling, and Specialty Surface Treatment Design. Capabilities are maintained to perform European Standards testing in accordance with EN 12400 and EN 12600.

PTSi’s asphalt emulsions laboratory, National Emulsion Technician Certification (NETC) certified, staff has decades of experience in formulating and testing products for paving and specialty applications. In addition to materials science, our extensive process experience makes PTSi uniquely qualified to provide cost effective solutions in various circumstances. Chemical emulsions are formulated for pavement maintenance and specialty paving applications. Colloidally suspended emulsions are formulated for metal coating, corrosion resistance, and various construction purposes.
