Design and performance of fog seals
The Fog Seal Application can be used effectively and efficiently to extend the life of a pavement. A Fog seal is a light application of an asphalt emulsion or an asphalt rejuvenating agent that is sprayed on the surface of and existing asphalt surface.
The intentions of the application is to slow weathering and oxidation, retain fines and impede moisture damage.
The success or failure of the application depends heavily on the condition of the pavement being treated, the application rates and materials type selected, and the calibration and operation of the application equipment.
The presentation on Fog Seal will give a short overview on how to select the right pavement, at the right time so that Fog Seals can be successful while also walking through materials selection, application parameters, and equipment calibration to ensure successful projects.
